Dear Natural Health Friends, Have you noticed that not all nutritionists agree? Eat Meat Don’t Eat Meat Eat Vegetables Lectins Bad Eat Fat Don’t Eat Fat Etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.!!! I believe I have finally found that one thing all nutritionists can agree about. Processed foods. (Hint—they’re bad for you!) This video does a great job of breaking down the health effects of processed foods. The way we process our food is a major issue with the American food system. Dr. Melvin Page (remember Dr. Page—of Page Diet fame, and our Eat with Purpose Course?) studied the effects of processed foods and food additives and their effects on blood chemistry. Specifically, he looked at the calcium and phosphorus ratio. He suspected dietary indiscretions if this ratio was altered from 10/4 (Calcium 2.5X Phosphorus). The biggest culprit was added sugar (he also blamed processed grains). Let’s take a look at what he had to say about the diet of a 41-year-old female with “rampant” tooth decay: “Few physicians or dentists would have disapproved of the patient’s diet, which included meat, once or twice daily; fish occasionally, milk, plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit, cola drinks and desserts rarely, coffee in moderation. The intake of sweets was equivalent of five teaspoons of sugar daily. In short, the patient ate the average American diet. Sugar, milk, and fruit juice were the errors.” Just consider…this was written in 1954. Today, the average American consumes 17 to 22 teaspoons of added sugar a day (not five). The processed food situation has gotten much worse in the last 70 years or so. We work with our patients to develop the healthiest dietary pattern for them. There is no one-size-fits-all. That said, we have seen processed food consumption affect the blood chemistry and keep people from healing. Consider the patient who overall eats well when she prepares food at home but still eats Panera when she should be avoiding gluten, and who also frequents McDonald’s. Or Burger King, you know what I mean! Not good! Today’s world offers us more and more opportunities to eat the foods that are making us sick. It’s up to us to buck this trend for ourselves individually and also for our families and loved ones, if we want to have optimum health. Our many success stories in the office very often read something like, “When I changed my diet—I felt much better!” If you haven’t checked out our free weekly webinar series to provide inspiration and guidance on how to learn healthy eating tips from the wisdom of Dr. Page, here’s more information. To your health! Dr. Keith and Laura Sheehan P.S. Are you on a nutrition program already but are having some trouble getting back to 100% Just ask yourself this question—are you consuming processed foods? (For example, did you go keto by eating processed cheese sticks and salami?) If you answered yes, go back to Dr. Page’s food plan and apply it 100%.

Hello everyone, You have to be living under a rock not to have heard about the benefits of vitamin D. It’s time to revisit this vital nutrient. Cut to the chase – at this latitude I’m writing from in Lancaster, PA, we only get enough vitamin D from the sun 4 months out of the year. And even in the summer – how many of us actually get outside enough (without sunscreen) to soak up the rays our body needs to make our own? Not to mention that to make vitamin D, we need enough cholesterol in our...
